Provides students with the understanding of the trend, scope and basic principle in chemical engineering. Develops skills in presenting the materials related to research in chemical engineering.

Instills the importance of academic integrity to students. Enhances students’ ethical capabilities to implement honest and responsible research conducts.

CHE659    Analytical Electrochemistry

Provides comprehensive coverage of fundamentals of electrochemical methods. The content includes an overview of electrode processes, kinetics of electrode reactions, mass transfer of electrolyte and various electroanalytical methods. The knowledge is helpful in the analyses and applications of electrochemical sensors, fuel cells, electrochemical syntheses, electrolytic deposition, and corrosion.

CHE661    Principles and Applications of the Photocatalytic Reaction

Focuses on the basic principle, reaction mechanism, preparation technique, application and the analysis method of the photocatalytic reactions. The energy conversion and the pollutant degradation of UV or visible light photo-catalytic applications are discussed too.

CHE601    Advanced Chemical Reaction Engineering

Provides a comprehensive study of chemical reaction engineering with an emphasis on the practical aspect of industrial chemical reactor design.

CHE608    Special Topics in Polymer Chemistry

Covers the fundamental principles of chain structures, synthesis and characterization of polymers and structural effects on properties.

CHE675    Properties and Applications of Functional Polymer

Highlights the synthesis of functional polymer and the correlation among chemical structure and properties of functional polymer. Potential applications of the functional polymers are also demonstrated.

CHE602    Special Topics in Transport Phenomena

Provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of transport phenomena with an emphasis on transport mechanisms and mathematical methods, covering finite differences and asymptotic methods.

CHE680    Special Topics of Industrial Organic Chemistry

Provides a basic study in industrial organic chemistry. Students are introduced to the principles of sustainability focusing on waste prevention, atom economy, energy efficiency and renewable feedstock.

CHE625    Taguchi Method

Teaches the fundamentals of Taguchi method and its application in the off-line quality control.

CHE614    Computer-Aided Chemical Process Design

Teaches the fundamentals of unit operations and their applications in chemical process simulation and design with the help of commercial software, including DESIGN II and ChemCAD 5.0. The computer-aided process design provides deeper understanding of the internal mechanisms of the chemical processes.

CHE679    Special Topics of Reactive Modification of Polymers

Provides an understanding of the principles of modifying polymers, namely PET, epoxy resins and unsaturated polyesters by reactive monomers. The structure relationship of reactive additives are explained, allowing the understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of applied additives.

CHE670    Planning Management

Develops students’ management skills including time, resources, organization and project managements.

CHE665    Principles and Practice of Scanning Probe Microscopy

Introduces the principles and applications of scanning probe microscopy (SPM), including atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Lectures are also given on other important techniques for characterizing nano-structured materials.

CHE667    Special Topics in Polymer Physics

Provides a study on the polymeric molecular chain behavior focusing on the viscoelasticity. The viscoelasticity affects the performance of the polymeric materials and the relaxation of molecular chains leads to the time-temperature correspondence. Understanding the principles is vital to the engineering design of the polymeric materials.

CHE603    Advanced Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics

Studies the basic theory and principles of the multiple phases, solution, and the chemical reaction. In addition computer aided calculation are conducted to fully understand the behavior of the system.

CHE672    Composite Materials

Provides an understanding of the characteristic of composite materials, composite tooling and manufacturing technology as well as the future application and development of composite materials.

CHE676    Advanced Physical Chemistry

Covers the general principles of classical thermodynamics, representative applications, fluctuations and irreversible thermodynamics.

CHE663    Special Topics on Renewable Energy Technology

Teaches the science of renewable energy formation, development, and conversion. The global and Taiwan renewable energy strategies as well as the climate change related to energy utilization and its solutions are also introduced.

CHE644    Temperature-Programmed Reaction Theory

Discusses the basic theories of the temperature programmed oxidation, reduction, desorption, and the reaction. Lab work provides the opportunity for hands-on experience of the technique.

COE 605   Master Thesis

Completes a master dissertation under supervisor's instruction to fulfill the requirement for a master degree.
